  • 1/3- New Hour partners with Lyft through #cut50 to receive transportation support for our members. 

  • 1/6- Advocacy Day Training Meeting with RAPP at our office.

  • 1/10- Dialogue at the Suffolk County Jail with Assemblymember Kim Jean-Pierre, Assemblymember David Weprin and the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department to discuss our jail programming for women and mother’s inside the facility. 

  • 1/14- Press Conference and rally in Albany to support parole reform with RAPP.

  • 1/16- We joined a roundtable discussion at Farmingdale State College to discuss solutions for homelessness and the lack of affordable housing on LI.

  • 1/18- ED Serena visits New Haven, Connecticut to be aired on Criminal Justice Insider radio show.

  • 1/21- We joined NYCAIC in Albany to demand an end to solitary confinement.

  • 1/25- Rally in Support of Bail Reform in front of the Mineola Courthouse.

  • 2/25- Albany Day of Action on Bail to demand no rollbacks.

  • 5/8 - Partnered with the Justice 4 Women Task Force and visited Yaphank Correctional Facility to drop off Mother’s Day cards and needed support to the women inside. 

  • 5/12- We partnered with Just Write Community Project for a letter writing campaign and to continue providing letters of support to incarcerated women on LI.

  • 5/13- New Hour Census Ambassadors Meeting to organize around our census work.

  • 6/10- Serena was featured on La Fiesta 98.5 radio show to talk about the issues women are facing behind bars and in reentry.

  • 6/15- Newsday visits New Hour and interviews Serena about our future plans regarding housing for women coming home from incarceration.

  • 6/18- Rally and press conference at Senator Todd Kaminsky’s office in Rockville Centre to demand the LI 6 Senators reinvest funding they received from police unions into communities of color.

  • 6/19- Serena was featured on the Criminal Justice Insider WNHH103.5FM radio show with Babz Rawls Ivy and Jeff Grant.

  • 7/17- New Hour members Latoya and Janean were interviewed by Newsday and featured in a piece about life in the Yaphank Jail during COVID-19.

  • 7/20- Launching of our Parenting and Wellness Program in the jails island-wide.

  • 7/20- We participated in RAPP and HALT’s 24 hour overnight action in ALbany to demand the legislator free our elders and HALT solitary confinement.

  • 9/16- ED Serena joined Good Counsel Services' Lunch & Learn program to present about the work of New Hour.

  • 9/17- We joined The Osborne Association as they presented "From Emerging Adults to Elders: The Case for Decarceration and Parole Justice."

  • 9/18- Virtual Support Group Meeting, honoring the life of Rusti Miller-Hill, former New Hour Program Director. 

  • 9/21- We joined the virtual campaign kickoff of She Will Rise, to discuss why it is imperative for a Black woman to serve on the US Supreme Court. 

  • 9/22- New Hour presented to the Ethical Humanist Society's virtual event: "Ending the Carceral System's Abuse of Women Behind Bars."

  • 9/22- Serena provided testimony on COVID-19 in jails and prisons before the NYS Senate Hearing.

  • 9/22- NETWORK's Nuns on the Bus did a virtual site visit with New Hour to hear about our work.

  • 9/23- Virtual Marathon with Capital One Giving, the Taproot Foundation, and other chosen nonprofits. https://taprootfoundation.org/

  • 9/30- We presented to Capital One Giving's LI Market President's Meeting.

  • 9/30- New Hour EMERGE graduate and Social Justice Coordinator Anitria Blue was featured on an episode of Ashley Asti's podcast, I'm Curious, called "Returning Citizen."

  • 10/28- Virtual Teach-In on Clemency by RAPP.

  • 10/27- Statewide action to advocate for those in Elmira Correctional Facility, who had a COVID-19 positivity rate 20X higher than the statewide rate. New Hour joined outside of Senator Todd Kaminsky's office in Rockville Centre. 

  • 10/26- The LI Racial Equity Donor Collaborative at the LI Community Foundation announced that it will provide funding to New Hour and 6 others to nonprofits advancing racial equity.

  • 10/23- New Hour Fall Event at Cornell Cooperative Farm and Education Center.

  • 10/22- Virtual Screening of  #LetMyPeopleVote, followed by a panel discussion including New Hour, PPHPAF, LIBA, NOW, and MRNY, where Serena presented as a panelist and spoke about voter suppression.

  • 10/14- Emergency Vigil and Rally honoring Salih Abdullah in Foley Square with RAPP.

  • 10/13- Linda Bonanno and the Got Checked! campaign presented to EMERGE about breast cancer awareness, action, prevention, and reproductive health.

  • 10/11- Rally to HALT solitary confinement in Foley Square

  • 10/6- #WhatAboutHer rally outside of City Hall with the Justice 4 Women Task Force.

  • 10/5- New Hour jail programming extends to Nassau County Jail.

  • 10/5- New Hour and LISJAN Social Justice Coordinator Pam Neely presents at the LI Poor People's Campaign meeting.

  • 11/11- Suffolk County Police Accountability Task Force Virtual Public Input Listening Session.

  • 11/12- Community Virtual Meditation led by New Hour supporter and writer, Ashley Asti. All proceeds were donated to New Hour.
