Social Justice Coordinator
Anitria Blue, a formerly incarcerated woman who served over 17 years, is a member of its EMERGE program that teaches and encourages women to advocate for oneself and possibly others. She holds a BA degree in Sociology from Marymount Manhattan College and is currently pursuing certification in Software Engineering with intent to become a computer software programmer. She believes this will set a precedent for other formerly incarcerated women to put their gifts, talents and work skills to good use for the betterment of self and the community. Anitria’s determination to help her peers she left behind bars landed her position as one of New Hour’s Long Island Social Justice Coordinators (LISJAN) that work toward criminal and social justice reform. In addition to enjoying her transition, she also enjoys singing, dancing, children, caretaking, cleaning, gardening and learning new things.
