John Dukes is originally from Southside ,Jamaica, Queens, and  continuesto have strong ties within that community. John, a graduate of Mercy College, is a returning citizen and a staunch advocate for criminal justice reform, as he has experienced first-hand the lack of dignity and humanity that exists within the prison industrial complex. For the past year, he worked as part of a team at The Marshall Project that put together a compilation of criminal justice news in the publication "News Inside". He has collaborated with artist Molly Crabapple and actor Michael K. Williams in the award-winning animated series, "The Zo".  He is the  co-founder of the grassroots organization Speak Ya Truth, a member of the Osborne Association's Speakers Bureau, and a parent delegate and advocate specifically for formerly incarcerated parents for the National Parents Union. He is dedicated to helping individuals and their families who are disproportionately impacted by mass incarceration in the State of New York and around the nation. John is happily married and has three adult children. In his free time, he enjoys listening to music, watching movies, and spending quality time with his family and friends
