Vanessa Pino Lockel
Vanessa Lockel is currently the director of government and community affairs at the MTA-Long Island Rail Road (LIRR). Prior to joining the LIRR, she served as the appointed Long Island regional representative for Governor Andrew M. Cuomo. Under the governor, Vanessa also served as the Suffolk County regional lead for the Governor’s Office of Storm Recovery, which empowered communities severely damaged by Superstorm Sandy. Furthermore, she has served as deputy press secretary in the Office of State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli and as director of community outreach at the former New York State Banking Department for Superintendent Diana Taylor.
In addition to her roles in government, Vanessa has worked as a registered lobbyist for the New York City Beverage component of the American Beverage Association, an international product manager for Merrill Lynch, a research specialist at JP Morgan, and even trained transitional inmates at Ossining Correctional Facility for Community Capital Resources, a nonprofit formerly known as Westchester Housing Fund.
Vanessa graduated in 1998 with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bates College and in 2003 with a Master of Public Administration degree from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs. She completed doctoral coursework in 2008 at Stony Brook University in social welfare with a focus on financial management. She is also a 2012 Partner of the Energeia Partnership of Molloy College.
In 2015, Vanessa was awarded Long Island Business News’ Top 50 Most Influential Women in Business and, in 2017, was awarded the Latina De Exito Recognition Award for Women in the Latino Community from Latinus Magazine. Vanessa has also been yoga-certified by the Yoga Alliance since 2018.
Vanessa resides in Miller Place, N.Y., with her husband, who is a retired NYPD sergeant, and their two children.
